Dietary Interventions focus on building a dietary pattern that includes plenty of intact whole plant foods (vegetables, intact whole grains, beans/legumes, nuts and seed) while increasing fiber and reducing saturated fat intake. We do not mark any foods as "off limits" and teach a dietary transition approach. We do not use meal replacements. We coach a sustainable approach to healthier eating. We are not dogmatic and encourage a balanced approach, including treats in moderation.

Which dietary patterns are we transitioning toward?
-
Mediterranean Dietary Pattern
-
Whole Food Plant Based Dietary Pattern that is moderate in added fat (not low-fat)

Labs that are expected to improve throughout this program:

Labs that would be helpful for participants starting the program:

- B12 and homocysteine (to evaluate not only for normal levels, but to rule out a functional deficiency)
- Serum vitamin D levels

Typical outcomes: most program participants experience significant improvements in fasting blood sugar, A1c and blood pressure at around 6-12 weeks, depending on the duration of their diagnosis. HSA/FSA Eligibility
Lifestyle Medicine Maine is a cash-pay service. We do not currently accept insurance. Patients are welcome to use their insurance to cover any requested weight loss medications and our clinician will complete prior authorizations and submit requested documentation as needed to assist with this.

Medicare and Medicare part B patients are unfortunately not eligible to use HSA/FSA funds because the provider at Lifestyle Medicine Maine has had to opt-out of the Medicare system.

Lifestyle Medicine Maine Membership and Appointments are fully out of pocket. Depending on the insurance provider, patients may be able to use your HSA/FSA for Single Appointments in addition to lab fees if the patient has commercial insurance coverage. Lifestyle Medicine Maine is able to assist patients in navigating their HSA/FSA benefits to inquire if this is eligible for their specific plan.
